A fine and rare Sarouk carpet
Persia, circa 1890.
11ft 10in x 7ft 2in : 360cm x 218cm
The town of Sarouk became popular with the revival of carpet production in Persia at the end of the 19th cent, to satisfy the demand from the western markets with America being the largest.
Sarouk carpets were popular as their weave and construction would provide a robust carpet offering many years of use. The present carpet is rare as to the design, of enlarged botehs on a white background, which heightens the fantasy. A detail to consider, if the scale of the botehs were smaller, the carpet would be of no interest to us.
Also to note is that the carpet is in exceptional good condition and retains original colour.
