An exceptional Flemish verdure tapestry
Circa 1700
Height: 9ft. 1in. (275cm) Width: 10ft. 6in. (320cm)
The present tapestry is, in our opinion, one of the most exceptional verdure tapestries that we have ever encountered. The design with the perspective and depth of the woodlands is of particular note. Also the use of excessive amounts of silk indicates that the tapestry was most probably a specific commissioned piece, as verdure tapestries usually only have highlights of silk details.
Of additional note is the elaborate designed border, again with additional silk and the overall colouring, still fresh and original, add to the tapestries appeal. The quality of the weave is finer than the general verdures one frequents and the combination of excellent design, materials, quality, colour, condition, creates a remarkable tapestry.
